Digital marketing agency cost in Vancouver

Most Vancouver businesses pay between $2,000 and $6,000 per month for digital marketing agency services in 2026. Solo freelancers start around $750/month. Full-service agencies handling multiple channels run $5,000 to $15,000/month. What you actually pay depends on how many channels you run, how competitive your industry is, and whether you are buying strategy or just execution.

Below is what each tier genuinely includes, what drives the number up or down, and the pricing signals that should make you walk away.

Quick answer: Vancouver agency pricing at a glance

Provider typeMonthly costBest for
Freelancer / solo contractor$750 – $2,500One channel, tight budget, hands-on owner
Small specialist agency$2,000 – $6,000Local businesses running 2–3 channels
Full-service agency$5,000 – $15,000Multi-location, multi-channel, in-house marketing lead
Fractional CMO$3,000 – $8,000Businesses needing strategy, not just execution

Figures are Canadian dollars, monthly, excluding ad spend.

What each service costs on its own

SEO

Local SEO for a single-location Vancouver business runs $1,000 to $2,500 per month. Competitive verticals like law, dental and home services push toward $3,000 to $6,000. Hourly SEO consulting sits at $100 to $250 per hour.

One-time project work:

  • Technical SEO audit: $1,500 – $5,000
  • Local SEO setup, Google Business Profile plus citations: $1,000 – $2,500
  • Content cluster build-out: $3,000 – $10,000
  • Site migration: $2,000 – $8,000

Anything under $500 per month is not SEO services. At Canadian specialist wages of $35 to $70 per hour, a $400 retainer buys roughly six hours of work per month, most of which goes to reporting. You are paying for the appearance of activity.

Google Ads and paid media

Google Ads management fees are charged two ways:

  • Flat fee: $500 – $3,000 per month
  • Percentage of spend: 10% – 20% of ad budget

A typical Vancouver small business starts at $1,500 to $3,000 per month in ad spend, plus a $500 to $2,500 management fee. Digital Trek charges a flat monthly fee from $850. Percentage pricing gets expensive fast above $15,000 in monthly spend, and it creates an incentive problem: your agency earns more when you spend more, whether or not the extra spend performs.

Ask which model they use and why. If they cannot explain the incentive tradeoff, that tells you something.

Website design and development

  • Small business site: $2,500 – $12,000 (Digital Trek: $4,000 to $10,000 for a trade or clinic site)
  • Custom build with integrations: $10,000 – $30,000+

Ongoing maintenance, hosting and security typically add $100 to $400 per month. See our website design services for what we include at each tier.

Content and social

  • Blog post: $150 – $600 each
  • Content retainer: $1,500 – $5,000 per month
  • Social media management: $800 – $3,000 per month

Why the same service is quoted at wildly different prices

Five things move the number more than anything else.

Competition in your vertical. Ranking a Vancouver roofing company takes more work than ranking a specialty B2B supplier, because a dozen roofers are actively fighting for the same terms and the supplier has three competitors nationally.

Your starting point. A site with 300 indexed pages, duplicate content and no schema needs cleanup before growth work begins. That first 60 to 90 days is often the largest invoice.

Strategy versus execution. Being told what to do costs more per hour than having it done. A fractional CMO engagement and a content retainer are different products at similar prices.

Number of channels. SEO alone is cheaper than SEO plus Ads plus email plus social, and not only because of the hours. Coordinating channels well is a separate skill.

Reporting depth. Agencies that tie spend to booked revenue cost more than agencies that send a rankings PDF. The difference is usually worth it, because a rankings PDF cannot tell you whether to keep paying.

Pricing signals worth walking away from

  • Guaranteed first-page rankings. Nobody controls Google’s index. This is either a lie or a plan to rank you for terms nobody searches.
  • Retainers under $500 per month. The arithmetic does not work at Canadian wages.
  • Long lock-in contracts with no exit. Twelve months is common and fine. Twelve months with no performance clause is not.
  • No named point of contact. If you cannot find out who does the work, it is being subcontracted offshore and marked up.
  • Refusing to share account access. Your Google Ads account, Analytics and Search Console belong to you. An agency that owns them is holding your data hostage.
  • Percentage-of-spend with no cap. Fine at small budgets, punitive at large ones.

What this looks like in Vancouver specifically

Vancouver pricing sits slightly above the Canadian average, roughly in line with Toronto and above Calgary or Winnipeg. Two local factors drive it:

Cost base. Agency salaries and office overhead in Metro Vancouver are among the highest in the country, and that flows into retainers.

Vertical density. Vancouver has an unusually dense home services and trades market. Marketing for trades and home services — roofing, HVAC, plumbing and electrical — is more expensive here than in a smaller market because the competitive floor is higher. The same applies to healthcare and clinic marketing in Vancouver, where dental, physiotherapy and chiropractic practices compete hard for local search visibility.

The upside is that the trades and healthcare verticals reward agencies who know them. Generic agencies bidding on generic keywords lose to specialists who understand booked-job economics and seasonal demand. See our case studies for real-world results from these verticals.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a small business in Vancouver budget for digital marketing?

A realistic starting point is $2,000 to $3,000 per month including ad spend, for a single-location business running SEO and Google Ads. Below roughly $1,500 total, focus on one channel and do it properly rather than spreading thin.

Is it cheaper to hire in-house?

A marketing coordinator in Vancouver costs $55,000 to $90,000 per year in salary, plus benefits, tools and management time. That is $5,500 to $8,500 per month fully loaded for one person with one skill set. An agency at $3,000 per month buys a team with several. In-house wins once you are large enough to keep a specialist busy full time.

How long before I see results?

Google Ads produces leads within days. SEO takes three to six months for meaningful movement, longer in competitive verticals. Any agency promising SEO results in 30 days is either misleading you or planning to chase terms with no commercial value.

Do agencies charge setup fees?

Many do, typically $1,000 to $3,000, covering audit, tracking setup and strategy. It is legitimate work. Ask what specifically it delivers and whether you keep the deliverables if you leave.

What is not included in a retainer?

Ad spend is almost always separate. So is design work outside scope, paid tools, and stock photography. Get the exclusions in writing before you sign.
