Google Ads has two costs, and agencies blur them on purpose: the ad spend, which goes to Google, and the management fee, which goes to whoever runs the account. A Vancouver trade or clinic needs both numbers separately before it can compare anything. This guide explains the fee models you will see, what a fair fee includes, what ad spend to budget on top, and what we charge.

The three fee models

ModelTypical rangeWhat to watch
Flat monthly fee$500 to $2,500Easiest to compare. Ask what hours and tasks it covers.
Percentage of ad spend10% to 20% of spend, often with a minimumThe fee grows when you spend more, which rewards spending rather than results.
Performance or per-leadA fee per lead or a share of resultsSounds aligned, but usually means the agency owns the account and the data.

Digital Trek charges a flat monthly fee from $850 for Google Ads management, whatever the budget, with the ad spend paid to Google directly and the account in your name.

What the fee should include

  • Campaign structure by service and by city, not one campaign for the company.
  • A landing page per service with a tap-to-call number, or at least the direction to build them.
  • Call tracking and form tracking connected to the account so bidding optimizes for leads.
  • Weekly search-term reviews and negative keywords, which is where most wasted budget hides.
  • Budgets that move with the season; see the trades marketing calendar.
  • Local Services Ads setup for eligible trades.
  • A monthly report showing calls, forms and cost per lead by campaign, not clicks and impressions.

If a proposal does not mention call tracking, the fee is buying clicks. The performance review guide lists what we check in an existing account.

The ad spend to budget on top

Most of our home-service clients spend $2,000 to $3,000 a month in ad spend, more during their busy season. Roofing and HVAC clicks in Metro Vancouver are among the most expensive in the trades; pest control, garage doors and clinic treatments vary widely by season and service. The right number comes from your cost per booked job: enough spend to produce data in 60 to 90 days, then scale what works. The budget guide walks through the arithmetic.

Why a flat fee suits a trade or clinic

A percentage fee means the agency earns more when your spend rises, whether or not the extra spend produced jobs. A flat fee keeps the incentive on results, and it makes the fee comparable across proposals. It also keeps a small budget affordable: a clinic testing one treatment campaign at $1,500 in spend should not pay a $1,000 minimum fee on top of it.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Is the fee flat or a percentage, and what is the minimum?
  • Will the account be in my name, with my conversion history if I leave?
  • How are calls tracked and reported?
  • Which trades or clinics have you run accounts for, and can I call one?
  • Is there a contract term?

The agency selection guide goes deeper on each.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Google Ads management cost per month?

Flat fees in Vancouver run roughly $500 to $2,500; percentage models take 10% to 20% of spend. Digital Trek charges a flat monthly fee from $850, whatever the budget.

Does the management fee include the ad spend?

No. Ad spend is paid to Google separately. Ask for both numbers on every proposal.

What is the minimum ad spend that makes sense?

Enough to produce a readable number of leads in 60 to 90 days, which for most Metro Vancouver trades means $1,500 to $2,000 a month at the start.

Can I manage Google Ads myself?

Yes, and many owners do until the search terms and the seasonal budgets start eating time. The mistakes that cost the most are a missing negative list and no call tracking; fix those first whoever manages it.
