Marketing for Vancouver Dental and Physiotherapy Clinics: What Is Different From the Trades, and What Is Not

Most of what fills a plumber’s schedule also fills a dental or physio clinic’s: appearing in the map pack, reviews, a page for each thing people search for, and reminders to past customers. The differences are real, though, and they are mostly about rules and about how patients choose. Here is what carries over from the trades, what changes, and where the schedule actually comes from.
What is the same
The map pack decides most new patients
“Dentist near me”, “physiotherapist Kitsilano”, “emergency dentist Vancouver”. The searcher sees three clinics and picks on reviews, distance and whether the clinic looks open. The profile work is identical to a trade’s: correct primary category (Dentist, Physiotherapist, Dental clinic), services listed, hours accurate, photos of the actual clinic and team, and a steady flow of reviews. The 21-item checklist applies almost line for line.
One page per treatment, one per location
Invisalign, dental implants, emergency dental care, children’s dentistry; sports physio, pelvic floor physio, concussion rehab, vestibular therapy. Each has its own searches and its own page, with what the treatment involves, what it costs or how billing works, and who on the team provides it. A second location gets its own page and its own Google Business Profile.
Past patients are the cheapest new appointments
Recall reminders for the six-month cleaning, follow-up sequences for physio patients who stopped at session four, seasonal notes about benefit years ending in December. The email and text reminder system works the same way; the timing is just tied to the treatment plan instead of the furnace.
What is different
Reviews and testimonials are regulated
Health professionals in British Columbia are governed by their College’s advertising standards, which restrict testimonials and comparative claims in advertising. The practical rule for most clinics: you can ask patients for Google reviews and reply to them courteously, but be careful about copying patient testimonials into ads or pages, never respond to a review with anything that confirms the person was a patient or discusses their treatment, and check your College’s current guidance before running any promotion. We build the review request around those constraints.
The decision is slower and more personal
A homeowner with a burst pipe calls whoever answers. A person choosing a dentist reads the team page, looks at the photos of the clinic, checks whether the dentist’s name comes up warmly in reviews, and often books online at 10 pm rather than calling. That means the team page matters more than in the trades, real photos of the actual rooms and people matter more, and online booking is not optional.
Insurance and direct billing are search terms
“Physio direct billing Vancouver”, “dentist that accepts Pacific Blue Cross”, “ICBC physiotherapy”. Those are among the highest-intent searches a clinic can rank for, and a page that explains exactly how billing works, in plain language, wins them.
Google Ads compete with corporate clinics
Dental and physio ads in Vancouver are bid up by multi-location chains. An independent clinic wins by being specific: ads for one treatment in one neighbourhood, pointing at the page for that treatment, with the direct billing detail in the ad. Broad “dentist Vancouver” campaigns burn budget against companies with deeper pockets. Our Google Ads management for clinics is built on that narrowing.
Where the schedule actually comes from
- Map pack and profile: most new patients, and the cheapest.
- Treatment pages ranking organically: the higher-value cases, such as implants and Invisalign, where people research for weeks.
- Google Ads on specific treatments and billing terms: immediate, measurable, and worth it when the page converts.
- Recall and reactivation: the biggest lever most clinics never pull.
- Referrals from physicians and other practitioners: for physio especially, a relationship program that no website replaces.
Track all of it the same way a trade does, with calls and online bookings attributed to the source, using the tracking setup. A clinic that knows its cost per new patient by channel makes every other decision easily. Our healthcare marketing work is built around that number.

Frequently asked questions
Can a dental clinic in BC ask for Google reviews?
Generally yes, and reviews on Google are patients’ own statements. Reusing them as testimonials in your own advertising is where College rules apply. Check your College’s current advertising standard and keep review replies free of any patient or treatment details.
How much should a clinic spend on marketing?
Work from the lifetime value of a patient rather than a percentage of revenue. A new dental patient who stays for years justifies a much higher acquisition cost than a one-time job. The budget method applies with that change.
Do clinics need a blog?
A small one, answering the questions patients ask: what a root canal costs in Vancouver, whether physio is covered by MSP, how direct billing works. Each post links to the treatment page.
What about Instagram for a clinic?
Useful for showing the team and the space, which matters more for clinics than for trades. It supports the decision; it rarely starts it. Search does.
