The Vancouver Trades Marketing Calendar: What to Push Each Season for Roofing, HVAC, Plumbing and Pest Control

Demand for trade work in Metro Vancouver runs on the weather, and the weather here is predictable in its unpredictability: a long wet season from October to March, a dry stretch from June to September, a cold snap or two in between, and heat that arrives suddenly in July. Homeowners search for the problem the week it happens. The companies that win are ready the month before.
This calendar is what we run for our home-service clients. The dates are approximate; the sequence is not.
September and October: get ready for the rain
- Roofing: roof inspections, gutter cleaning and repair, moss treatment. The searches for “roof leak” start with the first big storm; the searches for “roof inspection” start now. Raise ad budgets in mid-September and make sure the inspection page mentions the dry-season booking window.
- HVAC: furnace and heat pump tune-ups. The reminder emails to past customers go out in the first week of September. Heat pump rebate content works all year, but the queries peak now.
- Plumbing: sump pump checks, perimeter drain inspections, hot water tank replacements before the cold. Older Vancouver homes with clay drain tiles are the target.
- Pest control: rats and mice moving indoors as it cools. Rodent proofing pages and ads from late September.
November to February: emergencies and availability
- Roofing: emergency leak repair, storm damage, ice damming during a cold snap. The message is availability and response time, not price. Google Business Profile hours and the after-hours phone matter more than any ad.
- HVAC: no-heat calls. Every cold snap in the forecast is a reason to raise the emergency campaign budget two days before it arrives. Keep the “furnace repair tonight” landing page loading fast.
- Plumbing: frozen and burst pipes when the temperature dips below zero, which happens a few days most winters and catches Vancouver houses unprepared. A pre-freeze email (“three things to do before Thursday’s cold snap”) to past customers gets forwarded around.
- Electrical: panel upgrades and EV charger installs pick up as people plan basement suites and new cars over the winter.
- Pest control: quieter; use the time to publish the pages for spring.
March to May: planned work and rebates
- Roofing: replacement quotes. Homeowners who patched a leak in December book the full replacement now. Review count and case studies matter most here because the job is large and they compare three companies.
- HVAC: heat pump installs, rebate questions, air conditioning quotes before summer. Publish or refresh the rebate explainer now.
- Plumbing: bathroom and kitchen renovations, water line replacements, outdoor tap and irrigation work.
- Electrical: renovation wiring, inspections on older homes, outdoor lighting.
- Pest control: carpenter ants, wasps starting nests, the first ant calls. This is the season to run ads hard.
June to August: heat and outdoor work
- HVAC: air conditioning and heat pump cooling. When a heat warning is issued, searches multiply within hours; have the campaign built and paused, ready to switch on.
- Roofing: installs, skylights, flat roof coatings. Lead time is long, so this is when the September calendar gets filled.
- Pest control: wasps, ants, mosquitoes, bed bugs from summer travel.
- Plumbing and electrical: steady; use the quiet to collect reviews and update the service pages.
How to run it
- Budget follows the calendar. Google Ads spend should not be flat across the year. Move money toward the season your trade is entering, two to three weeks early.
- Pages go up a month before the searches. A “furnace tune-up” page published in November is too late. Publish in August, and refresh the same page each year rather than making a new one.
- Reminders go to past customers before the ads go to strangers. The email and text reminders are cheaper and convert better.
- Weather triggers beat dates. Watch the forecast. A cold snap, a heat warning or an atmospheric river in the news is a reason to raise a budget that day.
Everything above is easier when the tracking shows which season actually paid. That is why every plan we run starts with the tracking setup and a budget that moves with the calendar.

Frequently asked questions
When is the busiest season for roofers in Vancouver?
Emergency repairs peak from October to February with the storms; replacements and installs peak from spring to early fall. Inspections and gutter work spike in September and October.
When should an HVAC company start advertising for winter?
Tune-up campaigns in late August or early September; emergency repair campaigns ready by mid-October and raised before each forecast cold snap.
Should I stop ads in the off-season?
Reduce, not stop. A small always-on campaign keeps the account’s history and catches the off-season searches, which have less competition and cheaper clicks.
Does seasonality affect SEO?
Rankings do not change with the season, but search volume does. Pages need to be published and indexed before the season starts, because ranking takes weeks to months.
